What's the time?
Playtime!

- The company's slogan

The Playtime Co. Toy Factory is the main setting of Poppy Playtime. It is a place that has been abandoned for a decade.

Description[]

The front desk is the main attraction once the player is inside the place. To the left is the Security Office, location of the GrabPack. To the right is the gift shop, with a bunch of toys in boxes. A Boogie Bot can be seen in the desk, decapitated. Behind it is the big dome, featuring Huggy Wuggy. Surrounding it are the cafeteria, electricity center, innovation center, testing center, theater, and the gateway to the Make-A-Friend area. There is a big vent system where Huggy is bound to chase you. Coming out of the vent will lead to a bunch of railways and staircases leading to the flower where Poppy is later seen.

In Chapter 2, the locked door is inaccessible, with Elliot Ludwig's office, slides for employees, & the main attraction, the Game Station. There are 3 games there: Musical Memory (with a hidden room that involves making GrabPack hands), Wack-a-Wuggy (with a backrooms-style set of hallways), & Statues, with a broken-down office descending deeper in the factory into a water treatment facility.

Story[]

Playtime Co. was conceived in the 1930s by Elliot Ludwig. Their first toy was Poppy Playtime, who became very successful with buyers. They soon started making other toys that also became successful, maybe not just such as Poppy herself. One who did surpass her, though, was Huggy Wuggy, who became then the company mascot, kicking Poppy to the curb. Due to his success, Kissy Missy & to a lesser extent, the Mini Huggies, came to be.

The truth about this company is that they are experimenting with humans to transmit their consciousness to the toys, particularly orphans as it seems they're the easiest for them to use as a base rather than adults. Their treatment of their employees and workers is also borderline abusive and authoritarian, as complaints about monsters roaming around (such as Mommy Long Legs) is ignored and downplayed, employees are threatened to silence and possibly killed for learning about the secret experiments of the corporation, and the work environment is considered to be very dangerous and poor.

On August 8th, 1995, The Prototype set up an incident known as The Hour of Joy for his bitter revenge on Playtime Co. that made all of the Toys hostile and kill everyone within the Factory in brutal ways. During this time, Kissy Missy was being transported to the Playcare as part of the Bigger Bodies Contingency Plan. But once The Hour of Joy started, she broke free and started to attack the employees as well. After everyone (with the exception of Leith Pierre) was killed, the toys dragged the corpses of everyone down into the lower levels of the factory and ate them as sources of food.

10 years later, the unnamed protagonist, who is a former employee of the company, receives a letter and VHS tape which features a tampered version of the Vintage Poppy Commercial. In the letter, it is stated that you must meet them in the flower. At the end of chapter one, there was no one there except Poppy, a doll made by the company. Sometime along with its tenure, it shut its doors for reasons unknown (presumably both lack of workforce & their main factory being unusable due to the Hour of Joy) and closed all its factories.
